Keep Your Head Up

Mental Health

It was snapped completely in half, that was for sure. Although the second half was still stuck in the adaptor, I knew the SD card was beyond help. I threw it across the room, kicked as many things in my dorm as I could, put in my headphones and went downstairs. As soon as I was outside I started running. I made it to the other side of campus, but honestly, it wasn’t very far. When I couldn’t run anymore, I got my racquet and hit tennis balls into a wall until I couldn’t breathe.

These past few weeks have been… rough. Everything seems to be going wrong. Nothing major, but just a bunch of little things, like the SD card, all happening at once, which is enough to send my stress level through the roof. My final post on this blog was supposed to be one last workout video, but unfortunately that footage was on the card. After I calmed down about that whole situation, I realized that maybe a post on mental health was in the works.

Working out releases endorphins in your brain, giving you that post-workout high. It makes us feel better about ourselves, and so does seeing results from our efforts. We have to remember, though, that health isn’t something that only happens in the gym. Being healthy doesn’t only involve the physical condition of our bodies, but also the mental and emotional. I just want to encourage you to do whatever you need to do in order to take care of yourself, inside and out. Remember that taking time for yourself isn’t a sign of weakness, but a sign of self-recognition and strength. If you need to hit something, cry, run, talking to someone or take a break, do it. Listen to your body, physically and mentally, and you’ll see your health take a turn for the better.
